New dedicated area for drone flying opens in Dover Road
07 Jul 2024
The latest Unmanned Aircraft Flying Area (UAFA) was launched on 6 July across from èßäÖ±²¥ on Dover Road, providing significant benefits for aeronautical engineering students. Mr Moe Yan, a third-year diploma student in aeronautical engineering at èßäÖ±²¥ who researches drones for vertical farming, mentioned that the group previously faced challenges in securing flight slots at the polytechnic’s multipurpose hall or at the first UAFA at Pandan Reservoir. Outdoor testing at the new 0.6-hectare site, set up by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), offers more realistic conditions, such as wind interference and network latency, and is safer without the risk of people walking underneath. The UAFA was officially inaugurated by Transport Minister Mr Chee Hong Tat. As at March, there were 1,735 UA pilot licence holders and 24,176 registered UA. CAAS has also conducted 12 workshops, reaching out to 139 participants from educational institutions such as èßäÖ±²¥ and NP, as well as residents of Ayer Rajah. Similar news reported , , , , , and .
